day 7: the first look

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

So I’m not one of those photographers who preach on about seeing each other before the wedding for a first look. I am, however, one that HIGHLY recommends setting about 45 minutes aside sometime during the day of the wedding to get some “just you” shots. You know, the bride and groom shots that you’ll remember forever:)

But Jason and Karissa took it one step further. I mean, we were in Yosemite and had to do it up big. They not only did a first look, they had a first look day. We set aside the majority of Friday, the day before the wedding, to rock it on some first look and couple pictures all throughout Yosemite. Turns out it was not only my favorite session E.V.E.R., it was also a good thing because we had great weather and went to some amazing places in Yosemite. Also, a HUGE shout out to Kerri, my second shooter, who flew in for the first look and to help with the wedding too! She rocked it out amazingly. Let’s just say that their were audible gasps on her and I’s part when we were clicking our shutters. Unbelievable couple+unbelievable setting=radtastic images:)

If you are ever getting married in Yosemite, highly recommend setting aside some time for just the two of you to get some amazing pictures!

Hopefully I didn’t talk them up too much :) Here they are….

don’t just love. I L.O.V.E. this one!

boom.sauce.
this location was in front of this giant waterfall. The waterfall you see in the pictures isn’t even half of it, thats how giant it is. So its was crowded and we decided to work with the crowd:) Turns out they were excited about it:) Started cheering and yelling out “kiss her like you mean it”. Good times!

these next two were pictures I have been envisioning for awhile…as in, ever since we knew we were going:)
and these two I want to blow up on giant prints:)

and the 232nd reason I love Karissa. She was so into getting awesome pictures that she even rock climbed:) (for those worried about her dress, she wasnt off the ground by much, we just cropped good:) )

day 5: climbing some rock

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Day 5 we woke up in Yosemite National Park. It was unbelievable. Karissa’s (twin) sister, Nicky, lives and works in the park so we RV’ed it at her house for a couple days before the wedding. We woke up to the simple calm of nature. I can’t think of any other way to describe it. You walk out of the rv and there is a little stream rambling through the woods and Nicky’s house is this adorable little cabin about 10 feet from the stream (complete with a craft room in loft). I’m pretty sure my mother is going to see this picture and want to retire there:)

First before the picture a GIANT THANKS to Nicky for putting up with us all invading her house and for the crazy amounts of work she did helping Karissa with the wedding. This girl completely rocked it in the fun details and getting stuff organized! And for showing us around Yosemite…Brad is forever grateful for all the Yosemite trivia he now knows:)

So day 5 was the day that they all went out climbing. I decided to catch up on my pictures and editing that were piling up so I stayed behind and worked in the RV. Oh, and I cooked a chicken for dinner that Nicky had killed. Yeah. My mom was proud when I told her that one:)

Here is the crew (and no, not all these people were in the RV:) We had people meet up with us in Yosemite!):

and a rock climbing gear shot while they were getting ready. I’m in love with this picture for some reason:)

I sent Brad with one of my camera’s so these are all taken by him and someone else (Biff? Was it you?)

day 4: poop, the open road, and dr. seuss

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Day 4 was our travel day of the wedding roadtrip. We woke up in the KOA overlooking wine country and went to bed high up in the hills of Yosemite, where the wedding was going to take place. Here is what was in between:

first up, the dumping station. First I have to tell you that Brad is probably the one person in the world who was looking forward to this. Well, besides Lara who was a little too after watching the rv renter video:) So, when dreaming of our RV week Brad would always revert back to his desire to empty “the sh&%#er” with boxers and a trucker hat on similar to Chevy Chase’s relatives on Christmas vacation. While he didn’t get his whole picture, he did get to mess with the blue hose and live the dream:)

So this is what we did on the morning of our first day. Emptied “the pooper”. (This is a snapshot I took out of the window…I had no dream to live up to with anything that had to do with a blue hose!)

then we hit the open road with a brief stop for a marriage license for the lovely bride and groom. Along the way Jason and Karissa worked on their vows. Inspiration came in the form of Dr. Seuss awesomeness! “will you take her as your wife, will you love her all your life” Best. wedding. vows. ever.

Then towards evening we finally starting going up in elevation towards the mountains. Every turn was a beautiful view with an amazing sunset! Here are some pictures in order so you can see the change in elevation.

Brad had a little fun looking at the views.

see the small lake in this next one towards the middle of the picture? That is the lake shown up a couple pictures. Crazy elevation and drive to get up to Yosemite!
