her maiden voyage

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Lena took her first canoe trip a week or so ago when the weather was finally cooperating.  We went to Cove Lake out in West Knoxville and got to play and run while the boys did their long canoe trip.  Then we suited up Lena and let her ride around for a short trip.  She loved it and luckily stayed seated so no mishaps:)
Love this one…see her little head peeking out of the canoe:)

roadtrippin’

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

today we set off to jacksonville. 3 girls, lots of toys in an effort to keep the Lenabean entertained, some chickfila in our bellies, and manymany stops.

oh, and one backtrack by a few exits to make sure we got a starbucks fix.

10 hours later we arrived.  it was dark, right after sunset, but our first stop was the ocean.

because when you have a two year old in the back seat who has said all day “i go to ocean” how can you tell her its really going to be tomorrow.

so we found a little access to the beach, parked illegally, and made our way in the dark across a small boardwalk.

**

Lena hit the sand, teetered on it, and held up her hand to her ear and went “what that sound” in amazement.

her last trip to the ocean was at 10 weeks old so this was her first “real” trip, one that she can react to.

With Mr. Moon big and bright, a beautiful breeze and not a cloud in the sky we ran to see the waves

and even found a few shells:)

it was a good day.

other lena stories.

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Sometimes when work is crazy with photographing sessions in Knoxville, editing, orders, etc I forget that I have a little girl who is growing up way too fast. Well, I don’t forget but I do forget to break out the camera to catch some in action. I forget that there is an everyday life of my little family here in Knoxville that sometimes just need some snapshot pictures so when the snow came we broke out the camera and went to catch snowflakes in our mouths.

Lena story #1:
today in the car, every 2 seconds: “what do mommy, where go?”
me every 2 seconds: “we’re going to Staples”

after 10 minutes of this my answer changed to “what I said last time”
Lena’s answer to this: “chill out mommy, chill out”

Lena story #2:

Lena: “mommy, I go to work”
me: “oh, you’re going to work? Where?”
Lena: (looking up tapping her cheek like she is thinking) “ummm….I know, Lowe’s!” (pronouncing it “yo’s”)

that kid cracks me up! Isn’t she growing up?!

a flower girl

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Since moving to Knoxville we have met some great friends. Friends who have supported my photography business and dreams more than I could ever imagine. Friends who have entrusted me with their beautiful weddings and memories.

So it was an honor to have Lena be a flower girl in Jenny and Brian’s wedding. Because I had not gotten too many images on the day of the wedding of Lena in all her flower girl beautifulness (I know it’s not a word but I’m rolling with it:) ) I decided a couple weeks ago to get her all dressed up again in an effort to capture it all. So we headed out on a nice warm November day in Knoxville and got some photographs of her, well, ignoring the camera:)

Also wanted to mention we got Lena’s dress at mygirldress.com. They were great to work with and have the cutest dresses!

apple picking at Carver’s

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

In the midst of this crazy October with so many photo sessions and weddings we made some time for our traditional outing to Carver’s Apple Orchard in Cosby, TN. We love Carver’s! A place to get some yummy apples and other fall fare and of course, have a fried apple pie! Plus some fun places to take pictures. If you are up for a mini photo session at Carver’s, its a perfect place for one!

Cosby, TN is right outside of the Smoky Mountains and is beautiful this time of year! Every time we go out there we make grand plans to buy property and build a house:)

lena-ese

knoxvillezoo

I’ve been thinking about making this post but truthfully, the longer I waited the more I got some good words to put in here:) But today is the day! She told me last night she was an orangutan, so I’m pretty sure we are past the need to make up words.

Back in the day when Lena was really just learning how to talk if she couldn’t pronounce a word she would make one up that she could say and stuck with them. I’m pretty sure she is going to yell out “ami” in kindergarten she is that committed to the word:) Thus, we now have to decode for people when she says “where is my ami and ayas”. Then I look like a fool when I go to Krogers and ask “do you have an aya balloon?” :)

So here is a Lenaese dictionary of sorts:
ami: (ah-mi) elephant
aya: (i-ya) Backyardigans
exsikey: excited
sosa: soda
cookcook: cookie
kaikai: Kaiser (pop’s dog)
gogo: Diego
sissy: silly (you sissy mommy)
sicky ona cot: sit on the couch

And for good measure in remembering this later in life, favorite words right now:
what do mommy? (I hear this 1.2 million times a day!)
keen up (clean up)
doradoradoradora (this on 525,000 times a day)
pee now (not hearing this as much as we should be:) but we’re working on it)

my birthday girl | knoxville photographer

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Back in August we celebrated Lenabug turning 2! We had a backyard fiesta for our little lover of Dora and even had a Dora adventure complete with a map, swiper, and troll. Oh yeah! To this day Lena still see’s a cave and thinks Swiper is in there. Our cave made out of a hula hoop and sheets must have been very realistic:) It was a fun day with friends! Thanks to all who came and enjoyed!

oh, and yes, Lena decided she was the birthday girl so clothes were optional for most of the party. I figured, its her party, she can be nakey if she wants to:)
