thank you

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

before we get back to our regular scheduled program here around the bloggity, I wanted to take a minute to say thank you.

while my hurt is far from over and my emotions feel like they are in a bounce house I do know this,

that God is so good because He gave me you guys.

From my clients to my family to my friends, some of whom I only know through this great thing we call the internet.

Seriously,

I have been amazed.

and blessed.

thank you so much

for your prayers

your comments and emails

just for being there.

they have gotten me through this.

love you,

shannon

ps…some awesome pictures coming up this week and then I promise we’ll get back to some Five on Fridays and a little Mission Monday stuff too! I’ve missed them:)

saying goodbye…

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

to my baby,

I’ve written this blog post in my head a thousand times.

it hurts my heart to even have to think about writing this letter, this post.  but I must.

you see, this blog is my home on the internet.  its my heart, my business, my legacy.

and I want to remember you.

this moment, even though its the hardest I’ve ever walked through will one day pass. and I want to honor you, the hopes and dreams of you.

********

We found out about you in perhaps the coolest way possible, on a RV heading back to San Francisco after a week in Yosemite.

We were with friends and spent that night by the ocean.  and I thought of you.  and hoped and dreamed.

because I’m pretty sure you were going to be an awesome kid with that cool of a start, don’t you think?

*********

Your dad thought of names, rearranged furniture so your crib had its own space

I planned how I was going to tell the world

(a video of your sister announcing it was how I was going to do it)

and we dreamed.

*********

I’ll always remember your sister finding out about you.

She just screeched “a brother or sister?” and jumped around.

she would have been a great sister to you.

she’s magic, you know.

********

So even though you were just a hope and a dream, no more the size of my pinky, we’ll miss you.

i’ll miss you.

love, mommy

ps. God is good, all the time.

some farm action

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

Clayton and Chesey live near Abingdon, Virginia and are engaged! They are getting married in October in what is sure to be a beautiful wedding. This is Clayton’s family farm where he works now. It’s where he proposed too. And it’s awesome!

They mentioned doing their engagement photos on the farm in Virgina and that they got engaged there and I was all about it. They didnt mention all the amazing things there on the farm that would have me drooling! Old cars, barns, cows….loved it all! That farm was made for some photography!

this is the tree he proposed at!

a state park engagement session

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Chelsie and Gary are from near Marion, Virginia and getting married next year. They suggested have their engagement session at Hungry Mother State Park and I had to say yes. I mean, even for the name…don’t you just want to visit that place:) Turns out the trip up to Marion for engagement pictures was oh so worth it and the state park was amazing!

If ever you are in the mood for a little day trip up to Virginia, I totally recommend going to Hungry Mother State Park…awesome beach swim area, you can rent paddle boats, and an awesome restaurant (get the sweet potatoe fries!)

So we did a little wandering around the park to get some fun engagement photos. Here are a couple of my favorite photographs:)

for each other

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

It’s funny, exactly a year ago this week I finished reading Fast Track Photographer. I consider it a book that changed my life. After reading it I kicked my business into high gear and went for it. I went from 12 weddings last year to over 20 booked for this year. I had the honor of meeting Dane at his workshop in Jacksonville which was another life change…I went from wondering what my future was in this industry to having goals and dreams…and working towards them.

Tonight, a year later, I am getting together with friends for the first Knoxville Fast Track Group. We’ll be holding it at Studio317. Its a night of getting together with other creatives (not just photographers), being real, chatting about life and business, and being able to meet each other where we are at. Its FEO, for each other.

I’d love to have you join us! We’ll be meeting monthly so be sure to follow us if you can’t make it tonight!

erica + kyle: engaged

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Erica and Kyle are engaged and getting married on New Years Eve…how cool is that! We met up in exactly the right moment for engagement photos, between storms. Literally, it was pouring down rain in downtown Knoxville 5 minutes before our shoot and then the clouds parted just in time for us to rock out the engagement photos! Gotta love those pop up showers in East Tennessee this time of year!

We did a little bit of urban and scenic for this photo session and I think they rocked it for both! Enjoy the photos!

lauren + josh: engaged

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Lauren and Josh are engaged and getting married in August in what is no doubt going to be an awesome giant wedding:) Having met them twice now I can see why people are drawn to them. Lauren’s laugh is infectious, Josh is great and loves photography, their love of God and the earth (they are, by the way, self proclaimed tree huggers;) ) are admirable, and you can tell that they are totally in love and comfortable with each other. Love all of that! Oh, and they even got up early to meet me for engagement pictures to get some of the “good light” :)

So this is part one of our engagement pictures because we have a few other fun ones we are doing on another day that are going to rock! Enjoy Josh and Lauren!

Caroline and Ryan were married at Maple Grove Inn in Knoxville on a beautiful May day. It was, indeed, perfect. You felt as if you were in a magazine spread for Southern Weddings. The weather, Maple Grove Inn, the dress, the bride and groom…and all the fun details…it was just perfectly Southern and amazing!

Here are some photo’s to show off some of the amazing details and fun had at Caroline and Ryan’s wedding day at Maple Grove Inn. Enjoy!

The first look. Love first looks before weddings, something’s so special about them!

We had so much fun with the giant balloons! I have so many other shots of Caroline strutting her stuff but I just love her expression in this one. She was pure joy and soaked up every minute of her wedding day. My second shooter, the amazing Feuza, and I kept saying how we just loved her smile…it lit up her whole face and was contagious!
