guess what’s coming to Knoxville!?

Monday, May 10th, 2010

At the start of the year I would never have thought in May that this is where I would be.

or we would be. becky and i.

It started with a simple idea of getting a senior I know, Morgan, to model for me on some ideas that I had.

and it grew.

So luckily Morgan was up for it being bigger than just me and her and we ended up with 3 awesome models and 17 photographers.

Photographers that I am proud to know and have community with.

and now today.

Today we had a meetup with some of our local photographers to network, have fun, and announce some awesomeness.

What is the awesomeness?

The amazing nationwide company, Smugmug, has seen what we are doing and is getting behind us and I am so honored to be the appointed leader along with my co-leader Becky.

You guessed it! SMUG’s are coming to KNOXVILLE!!!

photographer’s rejoice!

Smug’s are groups of photographers getting together to learn, grow, connect, and have fun!

What does this mean? Well, we keep on keeping on with meetup’s and supporting our community but now we have the support and resources of an amazing nationwide company so we can grow and continue to reach out to our local photographers!

I am so HONORED.  and super excited for our Knoxville photographer community!

in the news!

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Just got a phone call that our photography studio, Studio317, was in the Knoxville news today! I love that the article focuses on community…because that is exactly what we are striving for.  Community, resources, and support within Knoxville photographers, that is what we want…and need!

While we are on the subject, Monday we are having an open  house at the studio for Knoxville photographers to mingle, have some fun, and win some rad prizes! Plus we are announcing something amazing for Knoxville photographers….like, truly amazing!  So excited!!!  If you are a photographer in the Knoxville area we’d love to have you join us!  Here is the event listing on facebook for it.

And don’t you worry, after Monday night I’ll be announcing the exciting news on here too:)

the first bus ride

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Lena loves buses.  loves them.  screams “a bus!!!!” at the top of her lungs as I mentioned in her five on friday. So last week we joined pop’s on his busride downtown.  She pretty much thought she was in heaven and now at random will say “remember when we took the bus with pops?” I’m pretty sure it was the highlight of her two years on this earth:)

She made up a bus song on the way down singing “we are on a bus, with pops, and momma….” and then just sing songed whatever was going on.  It was so cute! Thanks pops for the memories and adventure!

it was my home for 5 years.

it’s my husband’s birthplace and hometown.

it’s where we first met, where we first loved, where we married

and its drowning.

and forgotten.

1000′s of water rescues, 29 now confirmed dead.

and they can’t get FEMA help because the president hasn’t issued the emergency status needed.

(something about oil leaks being more important right now…)

Text ‘REDCROSS’ to 90999 to donate $10 to disaster relief.

I grew up visiting the Opryland when we were in Tennessee.  It was the most magical place for a kid at Christmas.

Back in January, I stayed there for the first time. It was amazing.

(click the link above for a good before shot if you haven’t ever been there)

These pictures hit home bad

and got me teary eyed.

our dear Opryland.

Brad’s family is in Nashville, here is part of an email his mom sent (hope you don’t mind me sharing Denise:) )

“Water conservation is the next big issue. We may run out by the end of
the week. It is critical. Bethpage and other smaller towns are having
to boil water before using as of Monday. The health director said if
you or your kids even get the water on your hands, you should wash it
off immediately. They said everything is in it from gas, oil, fecal
matter, metal, wood, trash, etc. Clarksville is having to release raw
sewage into the river.

This is something that no one has ever seen before and none of us should
live long enough to ever see it again according to what they are saying.
Tell Brad they had the weather channel guy all over yesterday showing
him around town. I guess he will camp out here because this is much
worse than a tornado or fire because the water stays until it has
somewhere to go. Knoxville is sending rescue boats and people to help
us. There have been over 1000 rescues as of last night. Now they are
beginning to find bodies. It is just unbelievable. Love, mom”

etsy? designer?

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

So for our next Knoxville Photog Meetup we are lining up an awesome children’s shoot. Our goal with these shoots is to give back and make it a win win for everyone. We have the photographers that get portfolio building and fun opportunities they may not have otherwise, we have the models that get the pictures and then we try to have the location or some other way that we are building up the community of small businesses.

So this month we are having designers, people who have Etsy shops, small business owners that need good professional pictures of their product. I have tons of models lined up and a few designers. We need more designers and would love to work with those that can really benefit from this! Thought I would post this on here in case someone knew of a children’s clothing etsy shop or a designer that this could benefit:)

If you can just email me if you know someone or are that someone:) shann@shannonkelleyphotography.com

And if you are near the Knoxville area, we’d love to have you join us!
