It started out as a simple idea.

and grew.

knoxville photographers getting together to support, learn, have community.

through shootouts and meetups. through friendship and support.

and I’m so excited about where its going. and I’m honored.

honored to be part of it.

here is part of the email I sent after the day was done:

I’m finally sitting in my jammies watching Kimora:Life in the fab lane (don’t hate:) ) and thinking about today the only word that comes to mind is honor.  I am honored to be part of an industry where we can do fun shootouts and support each other in this journey, I am honored to have met all of you today and see some of the raw amazing talen we have here in Knoxville, and I’m honored to be part of it all, even in the tiniest way.  Thank you for being awesome, thank you for making today wonderful, thank you for being all in and so supportive of everyone today.

Sunday I met 17 or so of my Knoxville photographer colleagues.

We had models, rain, and an old bank building thanks to the awesome Tony Cappiello.

And we had a great time at the first Knoxville Photog Meetup.

here are some of my pictures.  A HUGE thanks to the amazing models!

See, told you the models were rocking it! Thanks again to all who came out, it was amazing to meet such great local Knoxville photographers!

introducing the pink label | boudoir

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

I never set out to be a boudoir photographer.

It just kind of found me.

The greatest compliment I ever received was a client, who was beautiful both inside and out, looking at her album and exclaiming “I can’t believe this is me!”

That sums up why I do boudoir photography.

It makes amazing women realize they are beautiful, both inside and out.

So today I am proud to announce the Pink Label | boudoir photography by Shannon Kelley

It’s not often I do maternity sessions, not sure why because I had such a blast doing these photos, but I made an exception for the awesome Lindsey and made my way just north of Knoxville on an absolutely beautiful day! Maternity photos could grow on me… we had a super fun time complete with the picture perfect baby room, a fun belly, and even a couple pups thrown in the mix! And I think we got some awesome photos too:)

yummy sun! It was an absolutely beautiful day here in Knoxville

five on friday | my five lives

Friday, March 26th, 2010

my friend Melanie has been proposing some super fun questions as she reads the Artist’s Way and I thought we would use that as inspiration for our five on friday this week. I love questions that get you thinking in a fun way.

So the question is “If you had 5 imaginary lives to live, what would they be? What would you do?”

Here are my 5 answers…

-full time missionary
-writer
-Travel Channel host…like Samantha Brown
-a farmer’s wife
-a cool surfer girl that ran a little beach restaurant

Now its your turn! What 5 imaginary lives would you have!?

her maiden voyage

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Lena took her first canoe trip a week or so ago when the weather was finally cooperating.  We went to Cove Lake out in West Knoxville and got to play and run while the boys did their long canoe trip.  Then we suited up Lena and let her ride around for a short trip.  She loved it and luckily stayed seated so no mishaps:)
Love this one…see her little head peeking out of the canoe:)

a class for photographers | photog focus

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

studio317 in Knoxville is having a monthly class for photographers called PhotogFocus! Actually, its more of a discussion than a class so we can all learn and grow our businesses! I’m so excited to be part of the journey and can’t wait to see all the awesomeness come out of this for the photographers that are a part of it!

This is a monthly class that will be focusing on different avenues of being a photographer, the business, the marketing, the sessions, the equipment…you name it! It’s held at Studio317 in Knoxville on the first Thursday of every month. The next class is on 4/1 and the discussion will be on blogging (with a little SEO thrown in there!). The how, why, and when’s of blogging. We’ll be showing some video clips of some of the greats, giving out some mad crazy info, and opening it up so you can get exactly what you need wherever you are on this journey. Even if you don’t have a blog and are thinking of getting one, this is a great place to start because you’ll know all the details of how, why, and when:)

Hope to see you there! Seats are limited so book your’s here!

5 on friday | the how to survive a road trip with a 2 year old

Friday, March 19th, 2010

So this week we are in Wisconsin to celebrate Indie’s 1st birthday! Lena and I roadtripped it up with the nana and pops. Yep, we drove the 12 or so hours. With a 2 year old. And had a great time! Thought I would do this weeks 5 on a little roadtrip recap.

1. Nailpolish to a little girl is the world. And Lena is no different. She loves it and thinks she is the next best thing since sliced bread. So I brought some as my secret weapon for when boredom hit in. About half way through Indiana we broke it out and had quite the fun time painting our fingernails.

2. Oh, Yo Gabba Gabba! I am sitting here writing this only because she is watching it on the dvd player and entranced with it. In fact, she just stood up to dance along. So cute! Love me some Gabba Gabba!

3. Aside from her new penguin from Target the other new obsession is grapes. She LOVES them! And every time we see a store gets excited about grapes and chocolate milk. So I packed up a cooler of juice, grapes, and strawberries. Those grapes were gone by the end of the trip:)

4. Next on the list of obsession is buses. I’m talking screaming “there’s a bus” every time we see one! Loves them, especially the little buses:) She says “someday I want to ride on a bus”. We stopped in Janesville, Wisconsin to hit up the Super Kmart on the last part of our trip and the bus stopped in front to let people off. Well, you would have thought she was in heaven. Hilarious! So the better part of the trip was looking out at the window for buses and exclaiming “pinwheels” at the site of the windmills:)

5. Starbucks. Lets just say that the traveling prayer in the morning was “Lord, bring us a starbucks” :)
