five on friday | the date night.

five

the date night is a rare occurrence around our house. Not because we can’t or don’t want to but really because we are home bodies and cheap. just sayin’ :) Usually when we do have one we opt for dinner and a movie, that sort of thing. Tonight we are doing date night, our style. Lena is spending the night with nana and we are chilling at the house! Oh yeah! So this week is dedicated to being cheap on your date night!

1. Redbox. Oh Redbox, I’ve known you for a short time and already wonder how I didn’t come to knwo you earlier. With your $1 deals and freebies. So yes, tonight this is one on the list. We will be sitting on the couch watching a free movie from Redbox. *For those wondering (you know you all are:), you can go to redbox.com and sign up to get the free codes, they have one to use for signing up and then every first monday of the month. Woohoo!

2. A close second on what to do tonight, but alas, the couch is a calling:) There is something about walking through a mall during this time of year that is so much fun! Just to walk and look thought…when you go in with a list and need to get stuff, this time of year makes it a bit of a challenge.

3. Another fleeting thought of what to do tonight was go down to Market Square and enjoy the community of Knoxville. I haven’t been downtown much lately and could use a little Tomato Head hummus in my tummy. Putting that on the to do list for here in the next few weeks since we aren’t going tonight! But yes, look at your city and find fun things to do there on the cheap…there is always something going on!

4. Christmas lights! Are they up yet?! Here in the tourist mecca of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg they are and its so much fun to drive/walk around and enjoy. Gets me in the holiday spirit!

5. This one is on the list for tonight and Brad couldn’t be happier! Papa Murphy’s! We’re getting a thin crust yummy one! Poppin it in the oven, watching a movie, and probably falling asleep:)

happy friday!

Don’t forget…you can do a five on friday too! Here is how! If you do one, put a link back to my blog and sign up below so we can go check yours out!

Engagement photos, another one of my favorite kind of sessions and photography! It gives you a way to get to know the couple more and you just get fun photos! Sara and Roy were no different, awesome engaged couple with some awesome pictures to boot! We met in downtown Knoxville to get some great fall light and capture their love. Sara and Roy were great! They were so naturally in love and really were great with being themselves in front of the camera!

Another reason I love engagement pictures? Its lets you capture you being you as a couple. before the wedding dress, before the craziness of being newlyweds, before kids. It’s the one time you can get pictures that capture your love, all funky and fresh like:) My favorite picture of Brad and I came from our engagement session. Its a giant picture on our mantle and I’m so glad we did an engagement session just for that picture!

ok…who is ready for some pictures! Sara and Roy, thanks for being awesome and enjoy the pictures!

I love senior portraits! Its fun, you can do more magazine editorial portraits, and the seniors know how to rock it! Dani was no exception either. We met in Farragut, outside of Knoxville and got blessed with some awesome weather and sun! Knoxville seniors seem to be catching on to the idea that your senior portraits don’t have to be in front of a gray background, and I like it! Hope you enjoy Dani!

a friend’s wedding | twin cedar farms

Monday, November 16th, 2009

This wedding was special. Not because it was held at Twin Cedar Farms in Maryville, TN ( an unbelievable place!), not because the bride was brought in on a horse drawn carriage, and not because the flower girl was mine:). Nope, the wedding was special because these were two good friends getting married.

A HUGE congrats to Brian and Jenny! The wedding was absolutely perfect, set in the venue of Twin Cedar Farms on a brisk day, the reception area was warm and inviting complete with homemade jam for the favors. Plus, a great group of friends to celebrate the occasion! Enjoy the pictures!

the “how to” of five on friday

how to do a five on friday
After a couple of requests, I decided to do a “how to” for five on friday! Five on Fridays really originated out of my laziness to do a Ten on Tuesday and my ongoing need to not go with the flow:) Then I got to thinking that I wanted it to have some more jazz too…which is where the pictures and theme weeks came into play. So, without further ado, the 5 “how to’s” of five on friday!

1. Here is a template for the picture I use. It is a psd file with layers so you can change the background and text and then add your pictures in.

2. What to write? I write mine on whims, what is going on, what I’m thinking about that week, the time of year. You can get some ideas by looking my past posts at the category of five on friday on here. Ideas only please, don’t copy my five exactly…no one wants a used five:)

3. What pictures to use? I usually just google search for what I’m looking for and find a picture that is legal to use. Clip art works well too depending on what your theme is. Sometimes I use my pictures, again depending on what I’m talking about.

4. I could email out a theme per week/month if you guys were interested. Are you? Email me at shann@shannonkelleyphotography.com and I can put you on the list.

5. Let’s make this about some community and share with each other! I’ll put a little box, like the one below, on the five on friday posts so you can put up your five on friday when you do it! Oh, and don’t forget to link back over here to share all the fives!

art

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

I love art, especially things that inspire you to feel, change, or just gives you a glimpse of the world around us. So when Karissa asked me to take some pictures of her sister’s awesome art work for her portfolio I was glad to oblige! These pieces are so unique and awesome! I thought I would give a little sneak peek of the art on here tonight while I’m uploading pictures:) Enjoy!
