apple picking at Carver’s

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

In the midst of this crazy October with so many photo sessions and weddings we made some time for our traditional outing to Carver’s Apple Orchard in Cosby, TN. We love Carver’s! A place to get some yummy apples and other fall fare and of course, have a fried apple pie! Plus some fun places to take pictures. If you are up for a mini photo session at Carver’s, its a perfect place for one!

Cosby, TN is right outside of the Smoky Mountains and is beautiful this time of year! Every time we go out there we make grand plans to buy property and build a house:)

I have missed you. It’s not that I haven’t thought of you, because I have, but I have neglected you and for that I am sorry. Please forgive me and know that next week you will have my undivided attention.

how does your city smell?

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting New York City for a short trip. It was only for a night but I made the best of it and went up early to enjoy a walk through Manhattan, Times Square, some yummy food, and an amazing hotel, the Wyndham. The Wyndham is now up there on my list of awesome hotels let me tell you! It was a little mini vacation to sleep in that amazing bed, eat some New York cheesecake, and listening to the bustle of the New York streets below.

You know what struck me most though? The smell. I love how cities smell. Its that kind of smell that you can get no other place. That smell that, even blindfolded, you know where you are. That mix of good food, vendors, taxi fumes all wrapped up in one:) Love it!

In my walk up through Manhattan I grabbed a few pictures….first up, my lunch when I first got off the train from the airport, yummy gyro:)

I’ll skip the story about how you shouldn’t wear new shoes when you decide to walk over 40 blocks to Central Park and back and just share this street scene picture of the carriages with you:)

the Crandall’s | UT Botanical Gardens

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

I met up with Jenn and Jayson for some family photographs at UT Botanical Gardens in Knoxville. The UT Botanical Gardens are a huge favorite among knoxville photographers but we lucked out with not too busy of a day there except for a fairy birthday party (which was quite cute!) For those local photographer’s reading, that is a great place to get some fun photographs! Check out last years pictures of these two little ones and enjoy a couple from this year to see how they’ve grown. Now they are running around chasing after each other:)

I just love these two photographs! Just brings out the spirit of sister’s roaming through the garden:)

Oakes Farm Corn Maze | family

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

This past week I had a few sessions at the Corn Maze and decided to sneak out early with Lena and Mom for some fun family photos! Oakes Farm is just outside of Knoxville, in Corryton and a great tradition for our family! It was a beautiful day outside (a little chilly but we bundled up!) It was so much fun to see Lena really get into it this year. The Corn Maze had so much stuff to do this year including a kid’s area and awesome slide! We went with the traditional hay ride and picking out a pumpkin to cap off the day though.

(side note..those following me on facebook already know a funny story about Lena and her trip to the pumpkin patch:) Hint, in includes potty training and her first outdoor potty adventure!)

the family barn | E&D

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

When Erin and Dan told me they were getting married in Maryville, at a family barn, I had happy visions of awesome wedding pictures in my head. Little did I know the wedding would far exceed my visions, and the pictures didn’t turn out so bad either:) Maryville is so beautiful this time of year with the leaves changing and perfect temperatures, makes for the perfect outdoor wedding location! I posted one of my favorite wedding pictures of their’s here but wanted to come back and share more of their special day. You can also check out their engagement pictures here.

an empire state of mind

BN12022_1

my birthplace, the city where my mom grew up, the place that at 15 showed me what it was like to give back to those in need and love the differences we all hold, the destination of some roadtrips in college, once to view the fresh dust of 9/11. new york. There is nothing better than walking down a street of New York, you just feel like you are part of something. I leave in less than 12 hours for a quick trip for some photography funness. and I’m nervous. why?! I’m feeling my age and my days of youthful abandon by myself is lagging. Now I’m wishing I had my fam to enjoy it with me, to show Lena the FAO Schwartz store (next time its definitely going to be a family trip!) On the flip side though, I promise that happiness will ensue when I’m chilling at the hotel room looking out at New York and shopping at B&H Photo :)

So what is playing in my ipod? Empire State of Mind by Jay Z and Alicia Keys. oh yeah! Here are the lyrics to get you in the mood for some fun pics when I get back:)

New York,
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of,
There’s nothing you can’t do,
Now you’re in New York
These streets will make you feel brand new,
the lights will inspire you,
Let’s hear it for New York

remembering summer… (knoxville market square photographer)

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

I’m sitting here with my computer working in overdrive both uploading and downloading pictures so I thought of no better time to come and tend to my poor blog:) October is a huge month in Knoxville, Tennessee for weddings because the weather is usually spot on. This year its been a little less predictable than usual and yesterday was no different with a high of 50 for an outside wedding ceremony (luckily the reception was moved inside. brrr! I love fall but it’s feeling too much like winter around these parts! What happened to the 70′s! So in honor of summer, while I’m waiting for my computer to finish I thought I would go post a little pic that I have been meaning to from one day this summer.

We are so blessed in Knoxville to have a kicking downtown with Market Square and some great fountains that Lena LOVES to play in. Here’s to summer, we’ll see you next year!
