rockin it | knoxville engagement session

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

That’s right. Rafaella and Brian rocked it. completely. Not only were they ok with gallivanting all around downtown, they did it in style, humor, and awesomeness. It was a PERFECT night in Knoxville for some engagement photography with amazing sun for us! So looking forward to Rafaella and Brian’s wedding in 2010 where I’m sure they’ll rock it even more:) Enjoy the pics!

Mission Monday | are you skipping?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

We have been reading Blue Like Jazz in our small group lately. This is one of my all time favorite books and I love that every time I read it I’m inspired again in such different ways. Here is an excerpt from this week:

Some people skip through life; some people are dragged through it. I sometimes wonder whether we are moving through time or time is moving through us My brilliant friend Mitch says that light, unlike anything else in the universe, is not affected by time. Light, he says, exists outside of time. He tells me it has something to do with how fast it travels and that it is eternal, but it is still a mystery to physicists. I say this only because time kept traveling through me.

Is time traveling through you? Are you being dragged? If so, what can you do today to change that? I’m answering these questions myself. Some days I feel the pain of being dragged, some days I feel the wind from skipping. I think such is life, the ups and downs and constant reminder that whatever is going on, in the big scheme of things, God is in control.

I wanted to share with you two people who are skipping, despite the circumstances, and are such an inspiration.

Meet Katie: she keeps a blog here (thanks to Sarah for introducing this blog to me!). Check out the August 14th post to give you her background story. What an amazing girl who God is using! Here is an excerpt:

I am 20 years old and have 13 children and 400 more who all depend on me for their care. Who are all learning to love Jesus and be responsible adults and looking up to me. The reality of it all can be a bit overwhelming at times. However, it is always pure joy. There is a common misconception that I am courageous. I will be the first to tell you that this is not actually true. Most of the time, I am not brave. I just believe in a God who will use me even though I am not. Most mornings, before I even get out of bed I am overwhelmed with His goodness, with His plan for my life; I stand in awe of the fact that He could entrust me with so much. Most days, I don’t have much of a plan. I don’t always know where this is going. I can’t see the end of the road, but here is the great part: Courage is not about knowing the path. It is about taking the first step. It is about Peter, getting out of the boat. I do not know my five year plan; even tomorrow will probably not go as I have planned. I am thrilled and I am terrified, in a good way. So some call it courage, some call it foolish, I call it Faith. I choose to get out of the boat. To take the next step. Sometimes I walk straight into His arms. More often, I get scared and look down and stumble. Sometimes I almost completely drown. And through it all, He never lets go of my hand.

Mark Horvath: Formally homeless, lover of twitter, and showing the world a side of homeless that we so need to see.

Here’s an excerpt from his blog:

Why Me

I can’t spell, I hate to write and the only grammar I know
used to bake me cookies.

Why me? I ask myself that all the time. Mostly I wonder why God chooses to use me since knowing myself, I figure I must be His Plan B! Of course, God rarely shares with me His reasoning, but sometimes – maybe even years later – I see how He orchestrated my past for His divine purpose in the present. I constantly stand in awe of what God continues to do in my life and in the lives of my friends. Here’s what I know: if you stay on your knees, love God, love people, and live your life with all the gusto you can muster… then fasten your seat belt – you’re going to have an exciting journey!

five
Well, here we are, late September. Where did the year go!!? We are officially in the season of fall/autumn! The cheers for football have already started at the Kelley house and Brad is anxiously awaiting the day to put out his outdoor fall decorations and hit up a few haunted houses (sans me of course…I’m a wuss!) So this week, a few fall festivities I’m looking forward to!

1. of course, the leaves! I love driving through the Smokies with all the leaves flying down on you like rain. A must do! And then of course, making a pile and jumping in it:)

2. Pumpkins! We saw our first in Kroger yesterday and Brad wanted to buy them all :) He tried to show Lena the ropes in picking out the best pumpkin….she’s still learning.

3. Hayrides. Although I think this one will also incorporate corn mazes, apple orchards, and the like. All those fun things you can go do in the fall!

4. Mmmmm…the nice weather! Its that thin light where its hot but cold. You know, the weather around 78 degrees that when you walk outside you cant help but breathe in and say a little thanks for being in the world. Love that weather!

5. And my ALL TIME fave thing about fall…drum roll please!….the blessed time of year when you can wear your fave hoodie and still get away with wearing flip flops. No greater joy let me tell you.

Happy Autumn!

the tale of a bucket | fruit and berry patch

Monday, September 21st, 2009

found these while I was digging around in some archives and realized I never blogged it. So here ya go! Way back in August we went to the Fruit and Berry Patch to pick some blackberries. We also ran into some horses, goats, and a llama! Any day that incorporates seeing a llama is a good one indeed:) We love llamas. I don’t know if its The Emperor’s New Groove or that I call Brad a llama when he gets a little feisty, but I think they are hilarious. The goats were a different story. They did their goat thing and acted all nice then tried to jump the fence and get our goods that we picked. Just like goats. Lesson of the day: llama=good, goat=bad:)

Here are some pics of Lena and her bucket…

freedom fest pictures! (knoxville event photographer)

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

It’s a rainy Sunday afternoon, the kiddo is asleep, and the hubby is doing some project. So, I though I would put the first of the Freedom Fest Event pictures up! Just a few pictures of the day…from yoga, music, face painting…there was all sorts of fun things for everyone to do that day. There were some amazing vendors that were part of Freedom Fest and they will get their own posts over the next week or so:)

weddingplanningsites

Something a little different this week. It’s for the brides! Or for those of us helping to plan a wedding, know a bride, or a wedding photographer…so it can be helpful for us all! Yay! We’re focusing on some wedding planning sites this week! I just love these sites and I’ll give you a hint…. they are GREAT inspiration if you are planning any kind of party and need ideas! So here are a few of my faves…

1. The Knot. Of course, the mamajama of them all! I used this site to help me plan my wedding and now am a proud Featured Vendor! This site has it all and has a great list of local vendors that you can use!

2. 100 Layer Cake: A recent addition to my bookmarks for blogs I read. This is more of a blog than an actual site but I just love the uniqueness. For the bride looking for unique ideas/inspiration.

3. WedPlan: A bit like the Knot…lots of fun info and vendors along with some great ideas.

4. Wedding Wire: Another one I’ve loved since my wedding. Know why? Because you can go and give reviews for you vendors and get gift certificates!! And its on the up and up…I did it and got a sweet canvas from Canvas On Demand.

5. And last but not least..my fave! Project Wedding! I knew I was a fan when I photographed this wedding and was blown away by all the awesome details of the day…done by the bride herself! She was a Project Wedding fan and I was hooked! Love me some wedding with awesome DIY projects that just make the wedding completely unique! This is the site I go to if I need party ideas!
