five on friday (the lena edition)

lenafive

Just shy of turning two, she sits here beside me watching Dora and eating a banana cookcook (cookie in Lena-ese!). She has the special ability to drive me crazy and wonder how I’m going to make it through the teenage years and then melt my heart and wonder how I lived without her all within a couple minutes. Spirited is the best word for her I’ve decided. She is the child you see running down the grocery aisle’s in pure joy of being able to run with the parents running behind them trying to keep up and still shop. Yep, that’s us:) Yet I love that about her and know it will be one of her best qualities as she gets older. Here’s a five for her…to document the joy of Lena:)

1. She has become quite the picky eater! Anything green doesn’t stand a chance! Yogurt is always a winner though. Here she is in Wisconsin eating chocolate pudding. with her hands.

2. Funnily enough, the picky eating doesn’t hinder her love of icing:) In Wisconsin we went to their amazing farmer’s market and had some breakfast before we shopped. I had cheesy bread (yum!) and she enjoyed her icing. I know…bad mama!

3. Nakey is the new thing, haven’t you heard! She has recently learned to embrace the nakeynakey and sometimes demands it. Hilarious! Here she is at her pool in Wisconsin on the deck. Lately, while I’m making dinner she has been sitting on the counter with her feet in the sink having a good ol’ time- nakey, of course:)

4. In all her lenaness of being crazy silly, she is also so sweet and cute. She says “welcome” for you’re welcome and mixes it up with thank you sometimes. She looks at you and says “happy” to make sure you are happy. Or when she likes something or is having fun she’ll say happy and give you kisses. melts your heart.

5. She has her own style. loves headbands and is slightly addicted to shoes. she hates flipflops and prefers slide/step in shoes.

and that’s my girl!

oh to be a kid again…

I was going through pics for the new website and came across this one that I just had to post. It’s one of her fun past times, putting a hamper on her head. Despite the pic, she loves it and it keeps her entertained for longer than most other things do:)

five on….er, Saturday:)

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

fiveSorry folks, yesterday was a crazy day and truthfully, didn’t even remember that I needed to do it. whoops! so, here we are on Saturday! This week is a random week…

1. We are moving Lenabeans into a bigger room of the house with the hopes that we can corral her toys and bed into one room. Most of the rooms in our house are a light brown color…which is nice but kinda dark and don’t scream 2 year old girls room. So, we are painting the room a butter yellow and the ceiling a shade lighter. Ceiling is done, first coat is on the walls…so we are rocking!

2. Sorry for the lack of posts….I have about 10 I need to post but, alas, I have things on my to do list that must get done…like editing and albums! Next week I am kicking into high gear and have full, happy days dedicated to getting everything done so hopefully the posts will start rolling out:) Thanks for hanging in there with me!

3. SPAM. I hate it. I’m talking about stupid WordPress spam in my comments! I have tried everything and it doesn’t help. The next step is to finally do the upgrade to the 2.8.2…I think that is my biggest issue with the spam, that I haven’t upgraded. I’m skeered to upgrade. However, this constant spam (I’m talking every 3 minutes) is making me do it. Its on the list for next week. Until then, I have all comments being monitored so when you leave a comment it wont show immediately. Again, hang in there with me:) With all hope, we’ll be back to normal next week.

4. We are having a dora party for Lena’s 2nd birthday. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if I could find an adult Swiper outfit and make Brad wear it!?!? He would so do it too! So far no luck finding an adult one…if you know of a place, let me know:)

5. Coming soon Lena will get to be in her first big girl bed. Oh where has time gone! We have the bed and have been picking out some ideas for sheets. I think I’m leaning towards the simple stripe at Jcpenney’s. What do you think?

off to paint the second coat! Happy FridaySaturday!

I have been wanting some pics of my fam and me to use on the new website. We were in Nashville last weekend and got to meet Stephanie from Bella Flora Photography and rocked in out early that morning (I’m talking early!) Here are the pics from the sneak peek! I love them because they are artsy but so different from my style…oh, and they catch Lena being herself and her dada tickling her! I’m thinking a couple of these need blowing up for Lena’s new room! Thank you so much Stephanie!

an inspirational five on friday

Friday, July 17th, 2009

photographyYou know those days and decisions that change the course of you life? Like paths winding off the main road. You always wonder what was ahead on the main road but can’t help take the small path in hopes of what is ahead?
That main road was safety to you, comfort, you knew what to expect. You loved it for that reason, yet that was also its weakness. You need more. And now you are on this small path that is much harder but has the
possibility to be so rewarding. And you are so thrilled about being there. You know that place? That is where I am in life. Decisions are made and paths are being taken. And I’m so excited about the possibilities.

This five on friday is dedicated to those paths we take in life. I challenge you to take a path today. Take that step of faith. I am a HUGE fan of quotes. Dork, I know:) They are so inspirational to me and I love one’s that you can use as reminders in your life. One’s you can memorize and become your anthem. Here are some of my fave quotes of all time.

1.

Be the change you wish to see in the world. -Gandhi

This is my #1. I have it framed in my bathroom. It goes through my head at least once a day. I want it printed on my tombstone and live my life around its meaning. Love it! (sorry for the melodramaticness:)…is that a word? ) If any one needs an idea for Christmas for me, check this out!

2.

Happiness is in the journey, not the destination.

3. I think Ralph Waldo Emerson has some of the best quotes! And the best part, that those cards that have the quotes printed on them have a ton of his! Here are some faves…

-To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.
-What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters to what lies within us.
-Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

4.

It is always the simple things that change our lives. And these things never happen when you are looking for them to happen. Life will reveal answers at the pace life wishes to do so. You feel like running, but life is on a stroll. – Donald Miller, Blue Like Jazz, 217

Blue Like Jazz is one of my favorite books! HIGHLY recommend it! If you don’t like reading, they are coming out with a movie! I love the book though and recommend it :) Love it so much that if you want to borrow it, let me know and you can read mine. The above is just one of the quotes that I love from it!. It’s not a religious book, the sub title is nonreligious thoughts on Christian Spirituality. If you ever wonder what Christianity is supposed to be, even if you are non-Christian, this book is for you. It is the the kind of book that makes me want to be a Christian because Christianity isn’t about religiosity that we see here in our churches, its about being real. ok…off my kick, sorry! But the author’s note in the front of the book made me realize that the book was going to be awesome…check it out..

“I never liked jazz music because jazz music doesn’t resolve. But I was outside the Bagdad Theater in Portland one night when I saw a man playing the saxophone. I stood there for fifteen minutes, and he never opened his eyes. After that I liked jazz music. Sometimes you have to watch somebody love something before you can love it yourself. It is as if they are showing you the way. I used to not like God because God didn’t resolve….”

5.

“What would you do if you knew you could not fail?” -Robert Schuller

Sometimes it’s the little things. You know, seeing God work in the slightest of smiles. Changing someones day by a kind word. This is how it was when I visited the Hogar del Nino in Guatemala. Coming from a background of working with the Children’s Services and seeing first hand the group homes of TN and having experienced some orphanages in China and Korea that made your heart break, I went in prepared. I was prepared to see kids who were in need, in need of love, food, support, a future. But the only thing I found there was what I wasn’t prepared for. Love. The littlest thing of sitting there holding a baby showed me God that day.

This was their home. They were so well taken care of and so well loved. This children’s home was built with love and a hope for these kids. Here is a video of some of their stories.
