brooke and will: married!

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

Brooke and Will got married at the Stables in Lafollette, TN, just outside of Knoxville last weekend. It was a hot one…and I’m not talking about just the wedding party! Who knew June in Knoxville, TN was going to be so hot and humid? But we endured the heat and got some great wedding photography. Congrats to the fun couple!

The Stable is a great place to get married if you are in the Knoxville/Lafollette area. Very fun and eclectic! A knoxville wedding photographer’s dream of props really:)

five on friday (sneaking it in!)

Friday, June 26th, 2009

june26fiveI’m a tad later in the day than I like to be but hey, at least we’re getting it in:) I had my doubts some today on if a five on friday would be feasible…mostly because I didn’t have much of a plan on what to write. But, I dug up a few things that are fabulous just for your friday enjoyment! Have a great weekend!

1. I’ve been in such a summer mood and in dire need to go camping! Thought I would share my fave camping recipe since I can’t be camping right now…. Get a banana, cut a slit down its peel and open it up so its like a little pocket…leave the banana in there though! Then get some chocolate chips and mini marshmallows and put them in with the banana. Wrap it all up with aluminum foil, throw it in the fire. Let them cook about 10 minutes if its a good flame. Let them cool down a little after you take them out of the fire (with tongs!) and you can eat it with a spoon right out of the peel. Yummy!

2. Going to Wisconsin late next week to spend some time with my sister and her fam! Super excited about it! If anyone wants to recommend some fun places to go, let me know!

3. I’m a weird one and actually enjoy change. Well, there are times that it does make me cringe but for the most part, I say bring it on! Changes are a coming my friend and I think you’ll like it! Check out the invite at the top of the page! If you are local to Knoxville, or just going to be here or near, come on by to the Launch Party on August 7th….its going to be a blast!

4. Speaking of Wisconsin, I am hoping to curb some of my summer cravings while I’m there. The lake, waterpark, whatev…bring it on! I need me some hot sun, sunscreen, and water on my face!

5. Speaking of change (whew, sorry for the jumping around!)….I am going to be volunteering more (something that has been really on my heart lately) and CAN’T WAIT for it! It is with a mission agency! yay! More to come on that in the next couple months but I wanted to share my excitement because it is literally a dream come true just to help out with an agency whose focus is my heart…missions!

guatemala: the market (through the glass of a lensbaby!)

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

so, first an apology. I am extremely behind in personal pics and my Guatemala posts are suffering. So, here is the next overdue installment! A look at the Chichicastenango market through the eyes of a lensbaby. This was my first outing out with my lensbaby and it definitely took some time getting used to but I LOVE the effect it gives.

The market is the largest in Central America and they have it every Sunday…it starts off with cannon’s being blasted off in celebration of it at 5am. They build their store fronts on the street and everything! Here are some pics and more stories…

img_5221web
I bought a bag from this lady for my mom…I loved that she was making them right there and that they are so simple and unique! Nothing else like it in the market!
img_5225weba street vendorimg_5231webthis is the way alot of people carried things around, on their head!img_5235webErin bartering away! It was expected to barter and once you got the hang of it and realized everyone was cool with it, it was kinda fun! Even though I’m pretty sure I was terrible at it:) img_5240webimg_5251web
for some reason this picture just calls to me. don’t ask…I’m weird:)
img_5255web
so in the middle of the market is this large church. we were standing there and noticed some people clearing the way and it got quieter. there was a funeral going into the church and the community of the person were surrounding the coffin carrying it inside the church. it was a pretty awesome and reverent moment…especially to see it be such a community effort. I was pretty excited how these turned out…I think the lensbaby really helped with that!img_5273webimg_5274web

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Sarah is a friend of mine who recently graduated with her Master’s and has accepted an volunteer position working in Africa (she explains it in more details below). She is having to raise all the funds herself for the year she will be over there since this is a volunteer basis. This is such an amazing opportunity for her and I am so excited for her! There are two awesome ways you can help send Sarah to Africa…both of which are a complete win/win for you too! If you are not local to Knoxville and still want to donate, please see the bottom of this post on how you can pay online via credit card.

The first way is a Pancake Breakfast that will be held on July 11th at Aubrey’s. $5 for some awesome pancakes (all you can eat!), doorprizes, and a ton of fun = not a bad deal in my book! Contact me at shann@shannonkelleyphotography.com to get tickets!

The second way: A raffle with some amazing prizes!!!!

Here is an email from Sarah:

As many of you know, I have accepted an unpaid internship in Africa for the next year. I will be flying to Cape Town, South Africa, on August 1st to start this year long internship. christine and patrick (knoxville photographer)

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Christine and Patrick are getting married in October! Last week we met to do some engagement pictures for them. A little walk around town to get some fun pics, followed by meeting up with the puppers for some pics. Their two dogs are the cutest ever! Plus we have to give it up for Patrick for being a good sport, getting up early in the morning, and pretending he enjoyed a camera being shoved in his personal space;) Enjoy the pics!
