m&m: engaged (knoxville photographer)

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

They are engaged to be married here in Knoxville and will then start their Navy life. We celebrated their upcoming wedding with engagement photographs just outside of knoxville at Norris Dam State Park. It was a beautiful day for engagement pictures and we got some great photography!

He was the one that found her wallet when she lost it; that is how they met. And that just begins to describe Meghan and Matt’s awesomeness! They are getting married next year before he leaves for the Navy. We had a blast out at Norris Dam with some gorgeous weather and great scenery…no complaints from this photographer! Enjoy their awesomeness!

knoxville wedding photographer

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

So one of my favorite things about being a knoxville wedding photographer is the ability to connect with other photographers and get inspiration. Last weekend I had the privilege to not only photograph with knoxville wedding photographers, but also some girls from all over the US and Canada!! (I’ll save my love for Canada post for some other time…love them!) Here are a few photographs from last weekend that I have been meaning to post. This is from the model day where a bunch of us knoxville wedding photographers were shooting a bride and groom and some other models. Cade’s Cove, right outside of Knoxville, is a beautiful place to get married!

five on friday! (the spring edition)

Friday, April 24th, 2009

five1

Spring has sprung! I now completely understand the whole spring cleaning thing…what is it about this time of year that makes you realize how much you need to do and gives you the desire to just clean. I mean, I randomly cleaned my desk the other night just because I was in the mood. Isn’t that weird? So, in honor….a little spring cleaning five!

1. For all sorts of help…here is a website I love but rarely can follow for too long because I am so not the cleaner in our family. Thankfully God knew my limitations in cleaning and gave me a husband who is OCD about it:) I clean when I feel like it and get the urge, Brad cleans because it’s scheduled in. Anyways, Flylady rocks!

2. I have flowers to plant! I’m not that big of a green thumb but luckily have a mother who knows a little of what she is doing and an aunt who has a greenhouse:) So, gave mom some moula with the instruction to pick up something I can plant and not kill and wha-la…I have flowers to plant! Typically I go to Lowe’s, get all giddy with excitement about what I can do, buy a few things, bring them home and realize I bought completely the wrong stuff for soil, sun, etc. Now I just have to find time to plant my fun new flowers!

3. We have a list of to-do’s for the house with the amount of money it would take to do them. Half of this list wouldn’t cost us anything but time and about $20. I really need to get working on these things! Little things that you just never think to do on a Saturday but would get done easily if you planned them in and just did it. Here are some of our items on the list: pressure wash carport, clean rugs, fix faucet handle, paint trim on door in bedroom (have the paint already). What is on your list!?

4. We need a patio so bad…but alas, maybe later we will actually get to it:) I look at some and drool but I can’t commit to what exactly I want. The bed, bath, and beyond catalog got me drooling a little on some patio sets though!

5. With our new bed in the bedroom I have been wanting to get the room done…hang curtains, finish the closet door, new molding to match the rest of the house…that sort of thing. Things that we should have done when we moved in about 3 years ago:) Then the bargain hunter in me who doesn’t want to spend that much for all of this thought….yard sales! My goal is to get the majority of it at yard sales this summer. Curtains, curtain rods, door? Who knows what we’ll find:) I’m starting this Saturday and going to a couple. I may get into it and realize its not working and just go for sales…but hey, worth a shot!

possibilities.

Monday, April 20th, 2009

this weekend I spent time with about 30 other photographers talking shop, dreaming big, and having fun (and taking some fun pics…will post more later!). then I capped off the weekend by meeting with the team that I’m going to Guatemala with; our journey is the beginning for international missions at Powell Church.

What do both of these things have in common? They are the reason I am so excited and acting like a dork today:) I’m just excited about possibility. Maybe its spring and the new growth on the trees is getting to me…but I think its more that that. The possibility to impact the world, the possibility of hope and future, the possibility of it all. Just makes me giggle with excitement! dorky…i warned you:)

so here’s to the possibility in all our lives. may we love and embrace it.

a pic from my plum bush a few weeks ago. For you fellow photo dorks… this is straight out of the camera, only resized and sharpened for web, shot on Canon 5d, 135mm lens, 5.6, 1/8000, 1600 iso.

five

this week for a little fun. things I learned and loved from the recent Parents magazine :)

1. I‘m loving these make you own shirts from Poloppo . What great presents they would make! Now I just have to wait until Beans is drawing a little more…then, these shirts are happening!

2. I learned another way to use sweet potatoes and hopefully get Beans to participate:) Sweet potato spread. Puree a couple of cooked, peeled sweet potatoes and blend with a sauteed small onion, diced cooked carrots, and a spoonful of tahini. “Just a quarter cup of sweet potatoes gives your kid more than half a days work of vitamin A.”

3. I love some of there ideas on birthday parties. Got me looking into some Dora b’day ideas…even though we have until August…just wanting to be prepared for some ideas:) Dora Birthday Party Lets just hope she doesn’t decide to not like Dora anytime soon:)

4. I learned how to make an awesome parfait for the Lenabean. Layer rice cereal (I may use oatmeal…) between mango and blueberry purees. Yummy!

5. I love that I now have a plan to get Lena completely done with a bottle (yes…we are way past due for this but she drinks from a cup alot…just loves her bottle to go to sleep) …then its on to the battle of the potty! Next week we are implementing our new nighttime regimen, sans bottle.

ok…its off to the weekend. I’ll have limited access to email over the weekend so hang in there for the replies if you email me:)

college here I come… (knoxville senior photographer)

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Rachel is graduating here in a few weeks! We celebrated with some awesome pictures! I think this often but never blog about it (and I so need to get better at that!)…I seriously have the best clients EVER! I am a true believer that there are certain clients for certain photographers… and I LOVE when it just all meshes perfectly! Rachel was so fun, up for anything, beautiful, and even knew how to bring out her America’s Next Top Model:) seriously, what more could I ask for?! Leave her some love in the comment section!

easter

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Linz and Eric made the trip south over the Easter weekend so our family festivities had the whole crew which was so much fun! Its so fun to see how your family grows with the new additions. Let just say that nana and pops were pretty delighted to have two babies to spoil:) Lena loved her new cousin and was nice and gave him things to play with…we knew it was love when she even let him hold her Plex!

our egg making extravaganza! I’m not sure Lena really got too into it. She just colored and played with her Dora sticker. Dada on the other hand got all creative and made some funky eggs that were all sorts of colors:)
eggs

then some pics from our easter egg hunt. Lena was more into it than I thought she would be. She was especially surprised when the easter bunny brought her a new wagon! Isn’t Indy the cutest bunny rabbit you ever did see:) He slept through the hunt but deep inside we knew he was having a blast! I mean, he got to swing outside in April, that is more than any Wisconsin baby can ask for:)
easterhunt

We also visited with Brad’s family on Saturday and had big outdoor plans but the weather didn’t cooperate so we ended up at Cracker Barrel and opening baskets and eggs in the car…it was quite a site:)

And we had to squeeze in a little photo op with Indy…since he is the coolest baby on the block with his tiny Vans and all….

sunday’s coming

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

I’m sure everyone is different…but for me, there is no greater way to “move” me than through art (pictures, music, even nature, etc.) It may be the photography business that makes it more so for me or maybe most people are like this. Either way it think its so much easier to show someone a picture, video, sketch rather than explain it. Even in the simplicities of life….imagine the most amazing sunset you have ever seen, now try to explain what it looked like to someone else. Isn’t it so much more moving to experience it than hear about it? That is why I LOVE an awesome worship service…it just moves me. Being a YWAM’er I think I’m a little spoiled because man, can they throw down! I love feeling God in a place.

So this mornings service did just that. completely moved me. I was in tears by the end. just to be part of it all. Here is one small part of what I saw this morning. It won’t do the whole thing justice because the music made it…you can see the service at Powell Church if you want to see it in all its glory (which I highly recommend and you definitely don’t want to miss the end either!)

It’s Friday – Sunday is coming!

or go to http://www.ignitermedia.com/products/iv/singles/20/Sundays-Comin and you can hear it a little better.
