sea songs, snakes, and sexy cakes

Monday, April 28th, 2008

so, I had a few random pics on my point and shoot from the weekend. So, I thought I would share:)

first; I got a random itch to make the living room brighter so we painted the fireplace “sea song”. Its a bluish teal color. I love it, its growing on Brad. Make the room look so much bigger. I just need some curtains to finish it up:) The pic was taken before we had put the room back together so usually there is a fireplace screen to make it look nicer..but, you’ll just have to imagine it:) The color is a little funky and fresh…some may not like it…I kept singing the outkast song “so fresh and so clean” as I painted for inspiration:)

Saturday we went to Earthfest!!! Beans petted her first snake at the Knoxville Zoo booth:) I figured they always say to let kids experience different textures and she has books with different animal textures to feel…so why not the real thing:) She was indifferent about it. They also had a aligater skin there (not the real thing!) and she liked the feel of that a little better. Poor kid!

Last but not least. I don’t know how I have become the cake lady for my friends but I’m trying to do my best:) This was probably my most successful cake yet. My friend is getting married so we threw her a Lingerie Bridal shower….I think it turned out ok…what do you think?

So that is the recap of the weekend…it was a busy one! Share about yours!

5 on Friday!

1. Baskin Robbins is having their $.31/scoop night again on 4/30!! It is a benefit for firefighters, so stop on by and get some scoops! It runs from 5pm to 10pm

2. 5 things I would like to learn: spanish, to ballroom dance, control my tongue, not eat so much chocolate, play the bongo drums really good

3. 5 things I would like to do to my house if I had the money: redo the bathroom, add another bathroom, finish the basement, refinish the wood floors, invest in some great photo canvas’

4. 5 things that make me smile: my family, the word cheese ( I seriously think that word is the funniest one we have in the english language!), roadtrips, the beach, How I Met your Mother (one of the funniest shows ever!)

5. 5 great things to buy for less than $5: Sweet tea from McDonalds ($1), flipflops at Old Navy ($3.50!), tickets to a drive in movie (typically $5), song from Itunes ($.99), smashed penny from your latest vacay ($.51)

privileged v2.0

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Dont you love when things start clicking together. So, church last Sunday we sang a song with the lyrics “all I am is yours”. It really struck me….think about each of those words. All. I. am. is. yours. 5 key words that I could go on about but don’t want to be too preachy. In essence, we get wrapped up in the daily grind and tend to forget that our purpose on earth is not to make the most money, acquire things, be someone famous. Rather, we are His and here for the sole purpose of living for Him. So then, with that in mind. I wrote the last blog about being privileged and having the privilege. 2 completely different takes on the word really. That got me thinking about the song on Sunday and relating it to the song…. All I am is yours. What a privilege and one that anyone, no matter what race, income, continent, can have and it is the greatest privilege of all. What an equality we all can share, if only in this one great thing! If someone gave you infinate money to give a home or food to everyone in the world and the more you gave the more you were rewarded…would you not do it? Then if God is a greater privilege than any earthly thing and we have the capacity to give to all and get blessed in return…are we doing all we can? Then I ran across this bible verse while looking up the word and it summed all of it up with my whole thinking that “church” can, and needs to, happen anywhere.

Hebrews 13:13 (The Message)
13-15So let’s go outside, where Jesus is, where the action is—not trying to be privileged insiders…. This “insider world” is not our home.

Sorry for my crazy train of thought and hope it makes sense:) Not that I have all the answers and do all this…more of my thoughts and daily motivation for myself….Just wanted to share my thoughts:)

frames

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Rather than leaving comments I thought I would post so that the world can see:) I will need 12 5×7 frames. I have 1 right now with a few people saying they were definately going to help. If we happen to get more than 12 that will be fine because there were some families there that couldn’t participate so we could bless them. I will need them by next Friday, May 2nd. Just leave a comment on this post or email me as to how many you are getting so we can know what is coming. Thank you all so much for your generosity in this little mission…it is such a blessing to know people like you and to participate with you in blessing others:)

privileged

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Yesterday I had the privilege of taking pictures for 12 familys (about 20 kids) who are residing at a local shelter. I cannot show their pictures out of confidentiality but know they are the cutest kids and deserve so much prayer and respect. I had worked with the staff at the organization (who are amazing!) to put this together and much prayer had gone into it because that is alot of people to photgraph in an afternoon and the purpose of this was to bless. God definately pulled it off! Went without a hitch! While praying about this I have had so many thoughts about privilege (I think that is the best word to use…). Set down your thinking on stereotypes/ideas/knowledge of homeless, transients, etc and try to put yourself in their shoes. Imagine not having most of your belongings, not having a stable home, imagine having to look your children in the eye when they ask for something knowing you don’t even have a place for them to sleep at night. How blessed and privileged are we in even the simple act of going grocery shopping. We at the Kelley household are by no means rich, we have to plan to pay the bills, save, and all that, but at the same time, if we want something we can get it and save for it. At the same time, we have a lovely little house, cars that run, and stable jobs. That is more than the majority of the world. United Nations report that 3 billion people, roughly half of the world, live on under $2 a day. Wow.

So today, even in a little way, take a look at your life and thank God for the privileges (and the greatest privilege of all…knowing him). And while your at it, say a prayer for the kids of last night and their families, that God would bless and keep them.

a quick post…

happy monday!

Monday, April 21st, 2008

well, the weekend is done. We had a busy, uneventful weekend. They kind where you get alot of stuff done and have fun but didn’t do anything huge…that was this weekend. The rain kept us indoors early Saturday and then we were off to the Rossini festival. Sunday after church we worked on the garden then grilled out with some friends. Bean’s friend, who is a couple weeks older than her and they played. Her friend is crawling so we were hoping Beans got some inspiration:) Garden is looking good!! I didn’t work in it as much as I had wanted because I was designated as being the baby wrangler :) We have a plan for the front yard and that is our next week or two project because we want to get it done so we can move onto the next house project:) it never ends! Some updates/reminders/teasers below…

-Tomorrow is my session with about 17plus kids doing pictures to give their moms for mother’s day. These kids live at one of the missions in town so it is extra special. Say a prayer that the weather is good and the kids are in good moods;)

-Due to my grandfathers health we aren’t going to have a booth at EarthFest, just too much going on and had to cut something. Please pray for his health

-Big announcement + really cool stuff= awesome chance for you!! Check back later this week for more info!

-One spot open on the mini sessions…get it while it’s hot!

I think that is all…to leave you with a picture of Beans in her laundry basket… she loves that thing:) I made it a little abstract, let me know what you think.
